Uhhh.... did you see this part?
"As for the fantasy cars, the following is NOT an "official" list nor a "based on" list, just observations of what the cars may look like by several forum members."

Off course the cars are based on one sort of real car or another. Maybe more like bits and pieces of various models for some of the cars used in the game.
I don't care what anyone says, the LX-4 is based on a Ford model A Roadster with the original 4 banger modified and the option of a jaguar rear end.
NOT the Canterham everyone else thinks it is. I know this cause every time I use it in the game, the steering wheel is on the left hand side. Like the roadster. Canterhams are on the right.

Indycar Race????
You mean that little circle that's in a parking lot around a stadium that's about to be demolished?
Football team....Do you watch football? we had the worst record in franchise history this year.
What is hand egg?
Mexican Food? Houston is to Mexican Food what New York is to Italian food.
The best you can get. In fact the BEST Mexican food is in Houston, but east of 45 and south of I-10. You'd think it'd be California, Arizona, New Mexico or West Texas, but nope. It's 300 miles north of Mexico and 90 miles west of Louisiana.

Really? That's all we have to do to keep from getting a chick car?
Then maybe we should whine about the Porsche Boxer too. Just to be safe.

I dunno. I kinda like the fact that the cars aren't real models. I wish that instead of ever using licensed cars they continue to make up their own.
Maybe different year models? What would a 1974 RB-4 look like? I think that would be way cooler than some goofy licensed econobox.

LOL I go on vacation starting next Monday. Unfortunately, it's a staycation.
Houston is the 4th largest city in the USofA and the Largest city with nothing to do. It's really not geared towards tourism at all. Now if you're looking for a job or need to have some off the wall medical procedure done, it's a good place to be. But other than that, there's really not enough to do in this city to plan it as a vacation destination.
Oh wait. we have the Funeral museum. We also have a holocaust museum.
This may be a little off topic, but if all the neo-nazis keep saying the holocaust never happened, then why are there museums dedicated to it all over the world?

Quote from Racer X NZ :With the recent bombings in Russia, a careful read of the following may be educational.
http://www.al-monitor.com/puls ... meeting-syria-egypt.html#

Especially given this quote from Prince Bandar Bin Sultan during the meeting, "As an example, I can give you a guarantee to protect the Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi on the Black Sea next year. The Chechen groups that threaten the security of the games are controlled by us, and they will not move in the Syrian territory’s direction without coordinating with us. These groups do not scare us. We use them in the face of the Syrian regime but they will have no role or influence in Syria’s political future.”

http://rt.com/politics/volgogr ... ror-foreign-ministry-993/
The ministry stressed that the Volgograd blasts were staged using the same template as recent terror attacks in the US, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and other countries.

“The position of some politicians and political strategists, who are still trying to divide terrorists as ‘good’ and ‘bad’ ones, depending on current geopolitical aims, is becoming evidently mischievous,” the ministry stressed. “Terrorism is always a crime and the punishment for it must be inevitable.”

This one:
http://www.al-monitor.com/puls ... meeting-syria-egypt.html#
Read it closely. Notice that the article is about a closed door meeting a supposed closed door meeting between Putin and Bandar.
Who was the source of this info if it was a closed door meeting? It sure has a lot of detail for a story that is all that classified and from an anonymous source, don't you think? I think story is the conspiracy theory equivalent of Bat Boy in the National Enquirer.
Cool story though.
As far as world leaders and other celebrities go, I like Putin. He's like the Sean Connery of Politicians. I want to launch a campaign to get him to quit being President of Russia and run Governor of Texas.
Either him, or that mayor in Toronto. Either one would be better than the clowns we have running now.

And how much would you have to pay to actually take a car out on a track in America? We don't have that here, and I would gladly pay quite a bit to take out any car on a track!

You can do that in Las Vegas. I think in a small variety of race cars. It's pretty pricey. And there are various packages based on the car and the duration. I think you have some sort of training class for a couple of hours. I dunno. Never did it, but I know they have it.

Here in Houston you ride a ferrari or a lamborghini on an auto cross layout for $80.00 for three laps. Haven't done that yet. Whoever started this up just did so.
There's bound to be other people in other cities that do something similar.

Personally I'd recommend the going to see the Grand Canyon if you can. It's one of those places on the planet that if you have the opportunity to see it in your lifetime, you should.

About the prize for renting a car, 200 each week seems fair, we will at least be two people sharing the bill, maybe more, so it's ok. Hows the petrol prices down there these days? And please use dollar pr. liter, and not gallons, I have no clue what a gallon is

Ptice per gallon... Simple. look at a gas station,s price sign. It'll be per gallon.
in San Francisco this will be pretty high compared to the rest of the U.S.
It was over $5.00 a gallon when we were there.
Anyways... look at the price sign, divide by four and pretend you got ripped off a little. That's your price per litre.

I have both been to and driven through San Francisco. I don't know a whole lot about the place though as we were only in there for about a day.
Hmmm.... Fishwerman's Warf, I figure you'll probably go there. Are you used to driving on steep hills?
We did it in a Toyota Matrix with an auto transmission with overdrive. We had to actually use the lower gears and kill the over drive. Where I live it's flat and at sea level, so it was a very different experience. But it was still a lot different than diving through mountains. The streets we drove on went either up or down at around a 45 degree angle. kinda like driving on the letter A....AAAAA like that.
If you have the 35 bucks, I suggest going around the bay to San Jose and seeing the Winchester Mansion.
Weather... I've been told that the city itself stays about the same temperature all year long low 50s F to mid 60s. We were there in June right after the start of summer and it was a trip.
San Jose was about 85 we go around a bend on the freeway and the temp was down to 64 in San Francisco
Cross the Golden Gate bridge and drive north up the One. Make sure you have a full tank and you do this kind of early as the gas stations get few and far between and the little towns close up when the sun goes down it seems.
Driving in general? There are a lot A LOT of horrible drivers in that state. At first I thought everyone from California drove like a moron. That's not true. A lot of people say that but not really. See it's not the natives driving like that. I started to notice car rental stickers on the most dangerous cars. And there are a lot of rental cars on the freeways.
I don't know much else about the state except that it really is a beautiful place overall and the Pacific is cold. We took a road trip from Houston to Eureka California. We went up California from around Death Valley and worked our way up North. We drove completely around L.A. though. I don't generally get along with Angelinos and the traffic is Horrid.
Gays in San Francisco. You know this is actually a big blessing in disguise for heterosexual males. For every openly gay male and they are very much open about it, there are two quietly frustrated hetero women. Think about it.
The weed thing. My advice is to find a friend that has a script for it. They get it dirt cheap. You can't get it legally yourself. You have to be a resident of the state for three years. And then you have to buy a license. Oh... I've been told to stay out of Bakersfield.
I dunno why. Something about it smelling bad. We didn't go there.
Food... Hmmm... It's California. They have everything. I would recommend In and Out Burger and Roundtable pizza as far as food chains goes. Being from the Gulf Coast, our seafood and Mexican food rules, but you still might like theirs. I really didn't like their Mexican food all that much. But their seafood was pretty good. Everywhere I tried the sushi, it was really good.
Wine Country. We went to some town called Geyserville. If you like wine. Go there. It's about 100-150 miles North of San Francisco.

I LOVE demonstrating how much of an Asshole I can be!
Not so sure how that relates to the LOL politically correct way to deal with racists. Or more like determining what is really racists remarks and what is really just trash talk.
That's really more of my concern about the whole issue.
Even though by and large I think is a non-issue to begin with. because if there was an issue with moderators going overboard with enforcing things,

But I still trip out when Europeans and Africans describe themselves as "Black" or "white".
That bland of a distinction should only be for Americans. I mean if you really want to identify yourselves that way, then go right ahead. But if you do that, then maybe you can figure something else out for me:
Thanks to an open minded relative, I recently went from circling "W" on official forms to circling "H".
DO y'all eurotypes know what the "H" stands for? You obviously want to be identified with "W" or "B", what about "H"? LOL if you're smart you won't.
"H" stands for Hispanic. No one is really quite sure what that means.
See It's sort of supposed to mean people that came from Spanish Dominated language ethnic groups. Here's the funny part. People from Spain are NOT considered Hispanic and people from Brazil are.And they speak Portuguese!
Go figure.

I dunno Scawen... I think you might be going the wrong way with this.
What ought to be done instead is a spot on the forums called "Race Bait"
Where once a week a random racial or ethnic group is listed and for that week anyone who feels like making negative comments about that group can. They just have to realize that their group will be listed sooner or later too.
See I think the bigger problem isn't from the Racists. We already know those defects have self esteem issues and are jealous of others that are able to be more successful than they are.
No the problem are the thin-skinned whiners that are hyper sensitive.
If they're that way on the forums, how much of a wimp will they be out on the servers? Have you thought about that?
If they lose a race, will they offer up the lame excuse that others blocked them out cause they were a so and so?
Don't get me wrong, If there's a definite hater that goes out of their way to mess with others, then they need to be gotten rid of.
But I also think that the ones that reported Bose for the term "Arabbbbb" (that many b's?) are too wimpy for me to want to race with. You should ban them for being pussies. If they're that damned whiny over a comment like that, what kind of hell would you catch from them if you swap paint with them on a corner?

Hell, you know how many times some Eurotype ragged on me for being..."Merican" ? Nah, I don't either. Geesh I don't go running crying like a little girl to the admins when that happens. LOL Besides, Being a "Merican" I know I'm the superior person.

Don't get me wrong Scawen. I realize that there's a difference between goofy kid making an off color remark to someone that easily gets their panties in a ruffle and a mentally defective type that is basically cyberbullying a poor guy just trying to have a good time.
I just hope y'all do too.

Quote from tristancliffe :I'm sure it did. But that doesn't mean some under educated moron, fitting massive wheels, drilling his airbox and fitting a 12" exhaust has much to do with progress. I don't think most design engineers are over-educated, but there is little doubt the majority of 'modders' are under-educated and under-skilled.
Frenching headlights isn't American, and doesn't originate in the 1950s.
Now, the paint thing is probably true - but it wouldn't have been (for the most part) the modders that did any of the thinking and development on paint, but skilled (though not necessarily educated) painters, perhaps funded by misguided youths. What that has to do with under-body neons or badly matching a turbo to a normally aspirated engine I don't know.

"I don't think most design engineers are over-educated,..."
Yeah? Boy I do. Something like 99.99999999% of them. But that's another topic, like who do hate working with?

You gotta look at it like Divergent evolution.
Sure you're going to have people mod something horrible.
Mod? Customize?
In fact, a whole lot of sucky things But for every - I dunno - ten cars wrapped in plastic with crooked neon, you get something really innovative
like power windows.
And to be totally honest, I don't think these people are doing this crap to their cars for your benefit.
These people try to personalize their rides.
Besides, could you really imagine Herman Munster driving anything else?
Last year I did some graphics work for a guy with a 1960something Honda motorcycle. He had it customized into a really cool cafe racer.
This bike not only looks better but runs better than what it was originally.
And even though this bike was basically a frame in the mud when he got it, something tells me this dude wouldn't be happy riding on it stock if it was still rideable that way.

"Freching" wasn't American? You mean they had Mercurys in Europe?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frenching_(automobile)

I have never heard of a lead sled a lowrider or a street rod in Europe.
Wait. I do remember seeing a lowrider in the UK in an old Lowrider magazine.
But the dude was inspired by the homies in L.A.

This 'whole other world' existing doesn't mean I have to like it. In the same way that no one will stop doing it because I don't like it. That's fine. My opinion is that it's utterly daft. I have no interest in "checking it out"; I've come across too many of that type to be interested, thank you.

just outta curiosity, you do realize that a big chunk of what you do like in cars evolved from some kid in a garage somewhere with a wrench, mix-matched parts and some bondo don't you?
You think every little element of a car design is from some over educated idiot in a tie with a hunk of clay and some pretty pictures of cars hanging in their cubicle?
For example, the headlight design on almost all cars out there evolved from "frenched" headlights in California in the 1950's. Chopping and channeling lead to major design changes in cars for a few decades.
Then there's paint. I could go on all day about how customizers influenced coatings.

So no, I won't be watching it. I don't want to encourage stupidity.

You know, I can't say anything to encourage you to have an open mind and watch these movies as I'm in agreement with you, but I'll admit these movies never gave off the impression that any of the characters were taking their roles seriously. Yeah, the FnF movies ain't the next Forest Gump or Full Metal Jacket.
Heck there are probably porno movies with more in depth plot lines. But at least most of the action in those movies are done by stunt people and not green screens and computer geeks.
Those are the movies I can't stand. Cover up the lack of a storyline or worthwhile acting with lots of pretty CGI.
And yeah the cars are a little over the top. Ever see Death Race 2000? With Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine?
If you make a car movie, I think you kinda have do something to set the cars apart from real life cars and more fitting with the fictional world these movies are in.

Quote from Blade3562 :That's not very true in ny area. I am a VAG person so I know where all the toys are tucked in my area, but the number is still very low. We only have one maybe two dealers in 150-200 miles. (2 of them lost their licenses selling cars overseas)

Having said that I see about 3 porsches a day not counting my neighbor. This number has been constant since I moved here 5 years ago. Over summer maybe a Ferrari a day.

The car companies really taking off are Volkswagen and Audi. They almost account for the number of Fords I see. But notice to make cars cheaper VW went back to drum rears on base model cars and are building the cheapest and crappiest Passat ever. It's like getting in a Honda.

Subaru is another big seller now. Did their pricing drop or something?

I cannot comment on Corvettes. I used to live in Bowling Green, Kentucky where they are assembled so everyone and his brother's brother had one lol.

We used to have a Chrysler stamping plant in our neighboring town. Ever since it closed Chrysler sales are really down.

I think we now have 6 dealerships in the Houston area that sell Porsches.
Which is weird thinking about the auto bailout, the housing bubble and the really slow recovery.
Now that you mention Audis and VWs, I've seen a whole lot of them as well.
I don't know much about VW and quality drops. I don't really like them to begin with. We had a VW Fox when we were first married. Unlike the other German cars I had the pleasure to work on, this one was easy - but it had drums in the back.
Seeing a lot of vettes too now that you mentioned it.
I dunno. Maybe mustangman's right. There are still quite a few Baby boomers and now Generation Xers hitting that age. Maybe enough people realized their 401k was a crock, took the penalty and yanked out their "retirement" and jumped into the driver's seat of their dream car.

Porsches still outnumber any other comparable sportscar like 10 to 1 here, people won't turn their heads for a 911. Especially not here where I live, but thats cause they ship from here. Transporters full of GT3s are no rarity

...everytime I try to respond, I get pulled away...

LOL if y'all didn't drive so fast on that Autobahn, y'all wouldn't have to update the brakes...

I had a 95 BMW 318i - well my wife did. I remember asking somebody... I think Shotglass?, If I needed to get car parts could I order them through him to save some money by getting the parts from Germany.
He gave me a link to the website of the cheapest BMW parts house he knew. It's in Texas! in Dallas! 300 miles north of me!
A friend of mine stationed in Germany when he was in the Army dated a local girl. He told me her father was oh so proud of the car he had to jump through hoops to get...
LOL It was a Cadillac Coupe de Ville!

Anyways....
I'm still stuck wondering why I see all these Porsches lately. Maybe they are doing more aggressive marketing and making reasonable finance deals?
What if someone was looking to buy a new car and had a choice of a $500 a month car note for a Nissan vs a $500 a month for a Porsche? Even though the Porsche would have a whole lot more monthly payments to it, it would still make it more comparable and affordable to buy than what it was in the past.
Maybe that's what's happening?

Quote from ACCAkut :that article rates cars based on the defects that were found during the TÜV inspections, so it should be relatively unbiased (even if you let your authorized garage do the inspection, its an independent TÜV guy doing the tests in it).

Porsches do lead in the ranking of cars older than 8 years, which might be the main reason you see more and more: They just last, and can go through many hands in their long life.

No. these are NEW cars. Like maybe three - four years old at most. But seeing them with temporary dealer tags instead of actual license plates on most of them I see, they're pretty new. I dunno... maybe auto dealers here in the states offer a decent financing plan that appeals to consumers and can compete with the programs offered by competitors?

Anyone out there work for Porsche? What's up with them?
It used to be that seeing those cars on the road, even the low end (944s) models were very rare. Now I see almost as many Porsches as I do Toyotas and Chevys! Ok... not THAT many. but I do see almost as many Porsches as I do Beemers, Mercedes and the other German car makers. It went from seeing maybe one or two Porsches a month to seeing two or three a day in 15-20 years.

Most of the models I see are the Cayman and the lower grade 911. There's also a lot of the SUV models and that four-door car and the Boxter model.
The mega-buck turbo is still a rarity, but not as much as you'd think.

What did Porsche do? Get out of the exotic car market and started getting into mass production cars? I know a bunch of Americans didn't just wake up millionaires and ran out to the nearest Dealership for a status symbol. Is this the result of Porsche's more aggressive advertising campaign?
Or is this a world wide thing?

Also, with this obvious mass production, how has the overall quality of teh brand been affected?
